New England Planters

In 1758, Governor Charles Lawrence issued a proclamation to the people of New England inviting them to settle the fertile Nova Scotian farmlands left vacant after the expulsion of the Acadians. This would be Canada's first major group of English-speaking immigrants. By 1768, approximately 8000 New Englanders, known as the "Planters" had made the move.

The Studies Centre

The New England Planters Studies Center in the Kings County Museum, is the only major Planters Study Center in North America. The center is located on the lower level in the Community and Family History Department.
